PROJECT Hope's Shanghai office will help in the construction of a primary school which can withstand a magnitude-8 earthquake in devastated Yushu County.
Up to yesterday the city had collected at least 6 million yuan (US$858,904) for quake survivors through the Shanghai Charity Foundation.
Project Hope had received 450,000 yuan from locals, officials said yesterday.
The Shanghai office is consulting with Yushu authorities about the site for the future Hope Primary School.
"Construction of the school will start as soon as the aftershocks are over," said Wu Renjie, director of the Project Hope Shanghai office.
The project is expected to be wrapped up at the end of this year if all goes smoothly.
