East China Normal University is one of the leading universities with profound culture and high reputation in China. ECNU attaches great importance to the internationalization in its development and has established strategic cooperative partnership with many world-renowned universities.
Established in October 1951, East China Normal University (ECNU) is a key university under the direct auspices of the Ministry of Education of China. It is a research university with an extensive range of disciplines including education, social sciences, humanities, natural sciences and technologies, and administrative sciences. The University has 15 schools consisting of 35 departments with 55 undergraduate programmes, 102 Master’s programmes, 61 doctoral programmes, and 8 post-doctoral programmes. Besides, it has 6 state key programmes, 1 municipal “key-of-keys” programme, and 9 municipal key programmes. In addition, the University boasts 1state key laboratory, 3 key and open laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 2 municipal key laboratories of Shanghai, and 5 key research bases of social sciences and humanities of the Ministry of Education.
Since the 1960s, the University has had over 7600 international students, both degree students and non-degree learners of Chinese. Currently it has over 1,000 international students.
The University also runs an Online College of the Chinese language in collaboration with the National Office for Chinese as a Foreign Language (NOCFL), which is the first of its kind to be established in the country with over 5,800 students in 137 countries and regions.
