Founded in 1907, Tongji University is one of the most famous universities directly under the State Ministry of Education in China. The name of Tongji means cooperation and working together. After 100 years efforts, it has become a comprehensive university offering programs in sciences, engineering, liberal arts, law, medicine, philosophy, economics, management and education.
Tongji University has 21 schools and colleges, which includes Urban Planning and Architecture, Civil Engineering, Economics and Management, Electronics and Information Engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering, and so on. It offers 82 undergraduate programs, 209 master programs, 8 professional master programs, and 78 PhD programs. There are 16 post-doctoral mobile stations in the university. The university has a total student enrollment of more than 50,000 and 4,200 teaching and research staff among which 2,210 has either senior professional or academic titles. There are six academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and seven from the Chinese Academy of Engineering. As one of the state key research centers, the university has 16 state key laboratories and engineering research centers. There are five hospitals and two high schools affiliated with the university. The university has five campuses covering a total area of 246.667 hectares.
