University of Shanghai for Science and Technology is a key university of Shanghai with more than one hundred years' history. The campus is embosomed by green trees and red walls and is well known for its municipal level protected historical architectures in European style. The Jungong Rd. campus which locates in the Yangpu District of Shanghai originated from the University of Shanghai set up by American baptist in 1906, the Fuxing Rd. campus in Xuhui District originated from Deutche Medizinschule set up by German doctor Mr. Erich Paulun in 1907 and Sino-French Industrial University.
USST is deep rooted in Chinese culture and in the meanwhile has absorbed western cultural essense. It has 19 members of Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering and also trained a number of cultural elites and community leaders. Those who have studied or worked in USST includes:Lei Jieqiong, Xie Xide, Xu Zhimo, Li Daoyu, Xu Kuangdi, Meng Jianzhu, Huang Qifan, Lv Fuyuan, etc.
The total number of its full time teaching faculty is 1,158, among whom, 500 are professors and associate professors, 7 are members of Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering, above 20 are national level specialists.
USST has 16 colleges, including 3 international colleges, with more than 25,000 students.
It specializes in the fields of engineering and science, economics, management and literature and medicine, covering 19 specialties, 53 Bachelor’s Degree majors, 3 post-doctoral research stations, 33 Doctoral Degree majors conferring disciplines, 59 Master’s Degree majors conferring disciplines; 11 Master’s Degree of Engineering and MBA conferring disciplines.
It has also set up 6 key disciplines of municipal level and 7 key disciplines of the former Machinery Ministry.
